Array ( [sid] => 120556 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => I Know What They Say [time] => 2006-05-22 21:20:41 [hometext] => This poem is kind of about the Holocaust from a girl's point of view... sort of like Anne Frank [bodytext] => My parents anxiously whisper
in the darkness of the night
Voices low,
They mumble.

But I know what they say

It's what they always say.
"We must escape from here,"
is my mother's constant cry.
"No! Just a while longer we stay."
my father answers back to her.

Bombs explode
in the stillness of te night
Making deep booms,
a language without words

But I know what they say

"You are Jews!"
the bombs cry out
Vibrating the quiet air.
"Enemies of Hitler!
Tonight you will pay!"

Below me
Generals bark orders
to soldiers
in words I don't understand

But I know what they say

"Get the Jews!"
the general's call
below my bedroom tonight,
"Gather them all!
Bring them to me!"

I hear my father
outside my bunk
during the freezing night.
He seems so far away.

But I know what he says

"She is dying."
I hear him proclaim the fate
that I already knew.
"She must be helped!"
But I know it's to late.

And I slowly fade away... [comments] => 2 [counter] => 172 [topic] => 25 [informant] => shaydie_lady [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 4 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => MiscPoems )
