Array ( [sid] => 119912 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Addiction [time] => 2006-05-12 07:41:05 [hometext] => Addiction is a serious problem, that can ruin your life.Make a conscious and an all out effort to free yourself from this evil before it is too late. [bodytext] => Addiction

Addiction is a die hard habit, hurts your body and soul,
It is a self-inflicted wound; untreated, it turns chronic.
It sits on your back, commanding you to submit to its will.
You become a slave unto yourself, unable to get secured.

Some are addicted to smoking, ignoring statutory warning,
And some addicted to alcohol, just for the kick of it,
Drugs, some believe, take them to a world of fantasy,
They find solace briefly; only to be rudely shaken to reality.

The pleasure you derive is short-lived, the agony lasting,
The relief you get is momentary, the suffering eternal.
Each time you over indulge in seeking frivolous pleasure,
You make one step forward towards the unsolicited grave.

If have the will, there is a way to set yourself free from the evil,
You can get a fresh lease of life, and start all over a new chapter.
Carry with you two photographs all the time, no matter where,
One, that of your family and the other the undernourished child.

And when you feel desperate to lay your hands on your stuff,
Take your family portrait and have a look at the loved ones,
You know how much they love you; reposed much trust in you,
How selfish! you betray them for the health wrecking enjoyment.

Should you fall sick or your life is cut short due to addiction,
Your family is shattered; they suffer in perpetual grief,
Do you want such a calamity befall them, so dreadfully?
All because of your wretched addiction and self-seeking.

If this reality is not convincing you in your indulgence,
Take the other photo, a perpetually starving unknown child;
Large sunken eyes, the bloated head, the fragile bones,
And that melancholy look, penetrating deep into your soul.

And eventually these children die, due to hunger and disease,
Uncared for in a remote, inaccessible drought-ridden land.
And if you cut down a day’s quota of your addicted stuff,
You can pay for one day’s meal for the ill-fated child.

You save a child’s life; besides, you turn over a new leaf.
Next time, before you light a cigarette or slip into booze,
Or use the forbidden drug, have the photographs before you,
And if this is not going to stop you, God forbid, nothing can.
