Array ( [sid] => 119792 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => .:I Lost You:. [time] => 2006-05-10 03:51:07 [hometext] => I never knew how deeply I cared for this person in my life until I took advantage of it and it was lost. [bodytext] => You lost me,
He said with my pillow clenched over my head,
His voice a murmur on the phone,
His heart broken in tone as I lay in bed.

Is that all you have to say,
I ask him once again,
I hold my breath as he replies with,
I just don’t see us being friends.

He was my back bone,
But what was he anyway,
I didn’t know him all that well,
Can I believe all he has to say?

I should have never fallen for a friend,
He said he’d never leave,
And I took his word,
Why was I one to believe…why was I so naive.

I lost him,
The day that I turned my back again,
I guess if I put it that way,
I wasn’t much of a friend.

But none the less it stings,
When a day passes without a call,
He says he can’t have me in his life,
Because he thinks of me and that that is all.

Hard lessons learned when someone puts us in their past. "I wasn't much of a friend" is a retrospective to consider with your next friendship. I personally would never fall in love with anyone if they weren't a friend first, just makes sense. Very good "lesson" poem.

An all too familiar pain. I liked the structure and meter, and the storybook narrative, even though the subject matter opened up a couple old wounds. You never really get over it. Sigh.

A heart-felt, intoxicating read!
Thank you for sharing...
