Running
Everyday,
Running around in circles
Chasing their tails,
And for what?
For their spouses or children?
For their jobs?
For themselves?
Running
Everyday,
Running around in circles
Until Finally they stop.
Only for a moment
To wonder why they haven't gained any ground
Or lost any weight.
Only for a moment
Because in the next they are
Running again.
Running around in circles
Chasing their tails.
But Maybe they should have
Stopped and wondered longer.
Maybe they'd have thought
About what they'd been
Running from or for.
Maybe they'd have thought that
Just Maybe they were
Wrong.
But, it'd be just a thought
Because in the next moment,
They'd be
Running again.
Running around in circles
Chasing their tails like foolish dogs.
Running their cars,
Running their planes,
Running their bodies,
Running their minds,
Running their buses, trucks and machines,
Running every damn thing
That could possibly be ran.
Mindlessly making terrible
noise.
And for what?
For their family or friends?
For their future?
For their dreams?
It doesn't matter.
Just keep on
Running
With everybody else,
Just keep on
Making
That awful noise,
And maybe someday they
Will tire and stop and
Listen to the noise that they
Make and
Listen closely to the song
They destroy.
Maybe someday they will
Realize
That all people's things
Make noise and
Everything else is music.
Then maybe they will stop
Running in circles
And making their noise,
And chasing their tails,
And wondering.
Then maybe someday,
They will hear the song
We play. [comments] => 1 [counter] => 206 [topic] => 75 [informant] => Jocasa [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 8 [ratings] => 2 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => anguished )

I like this poem -certainly fulfills the label 'anguished poetry'- it made me rip at my hair. I found the meter so utterly tortuous that i shall certainly be glad to not read it again!
