In a kingdom far away

There stood a dark haired girl
Begging you to stay

Though she was no princess
Though she was no prize

She loved you very dearly
You were perfect in her eyes

You were her single reason
Her only living joy

She breathed your life and loved it
Such a charming little boy

Until one day it clouded
Dark and gray and bad

And you said it’s not enough
Though she’d given all she had

You dropped her hand and turned
Left that very day

She was lost in mourning
But you had found your way

Happy with another
Holding her so tight

She was who you woke with
And slept with every night

She couldn't understand it
Not this gentle maid

It was her you loved
And with whom you had laid

Nothing to be done
She could not bear to see

Your eternal happiness
And how perfect it would be

So she packed her things and fled
Into the deep dark night

Running from the world
Chased out by the light

Don’t know how far she traveled
She only knew that she must run

Find a place not haunted
Where she could feel the sun

Somewhere on her journey
When she could not sleep

Sometimes she would hurt herself
Sometimes she would weep

But she always had to wonder
Just why you had gone

Why you had to leave her
Hurting and alone

How could you love another?
Throw it all away?

Then she had to realize
You never would have stayed

Never running fast enough
Hiding from herself

To take away the memory
Her heart up on your shelf

And when at last she understood
You were not her fate

All the love she bore for you
Slowly turned to hate

No one did she see
For she had gone to hide

So the only one to hate
Was the one inside

She took the hate and nursed it
Shaped and took new form

Until she grew so cold inside
Ugly and deformed

Hopelessly she wandered
Swallowed up by sorrow

For her face was not her own
And her soul she had to borrow

When finally she fell
This girl of lonely birth

She closed her eyes and made a wish
To fall right off the earth

Alas, she found out later
Staring at the wind

It was not her time to go ahead
Her story not to end

So then she started walking
Not counting off the days

Just learning who she was
Looking for her way

She wanted to go home
But didn’t leave so soon

She found she liked to wax and wane
Like the fully open moon

To dance out in the meadows
Embrace the cool dark night

To bathe in flawless beauty
Of the crystal starlight

Looking in the water
Her hair did float like lace

She found herself staring back
Saw her fragile grace

She began to comprehend
Stopping with soft wonder

That you no longer held her there
Your spell no longer under

She searched so deep within her heart
Looking for your place

But you no longer forced yourself
She couldn’t see your face

When at last she stopped to rest
She had herself to show

She knew that she would be ok
She had to let you go

Her path was firm beneath her feet
Saw with rising dawn

And as the sun began to shine
She finally made it home

So now she sits there singing
Thanking those above

For showing her after all
She knew how to love

She has a wild free heart
She has a hard won faith

She laces through the night
Peaceful like a wraith

All she does is wait for him
Looking for the day

When her soul finds its twin
Lost along the way

She knows he’s out there somewhere
She knows that time will tell

After all, she can still smile
This is a fairytale

He will save her from herself
Help her find her laughter

And she will love and get to live
Happily ever after

Impressive! Portions of this sound like my life and the lives of so many others I have met along the way. I even thought that you were looking into my soul tonight. I found mine (Soul mate) thank God!

Glory is to God.

I Love it!

Walt Disney could'nt have written a more beautiful peice of poetry. this is absolutely
devine. I realy like your writting as well as your style of presentation. By the way don't
worry about people liking it or not, if you touched one persons heart by it that's worth more than ten crituques. You've certainly touched mine.

My goodness, this was beautiful. What a wonderful story.
And well depicted in this perfectly romantic piece. Even though
there was a sadness to it, it was wonderfully uplifting at the end.

Precious work here, EG. Just lovely.

A wonderful and sweeping write. A very sad at times, but full of hope fairy tale. I love how you fairy tale ended with hope and not a definite. I think it is best for the reader to come up with an ending on his/her own. You are getting better and better with each work, and you were already in the upper echelon.

Way To Go! BEAUTIFUL!!!
