A Silent Moment

Embrace the silence,
As you would a child,
Then weep within its arms.
Take a breath and face the day,
Watch gold tinted clouds,
Just ebb away.
Pierce the air with whistles tone.
Fade away, into the glow.
These empty halls give shape to dreams,
Lives carved out from jaded stone,
Listen close, the echoes sing,
They're caught within the whistles blow.
With every note, the silence grows.
Take a second just to feel,
Your heatbeat, beat against the dome,
Turn the stained glass windows clear,
Peel the paint from ancient walls,
Then fall into the silent halls.
Till at the end of the whistled song,
Return once more to real time,
Release the breath, the feeling's gone,
So, let the moment softly pass,
Yet know that it will always last.
[Embrace the silence,
As you would a child,
Then weep within its arms.]

Wow Phil, what a lovely piece of poetry. I loved these lines....
Embrace the silence,
As you would a child,
Then weep within its arms.
I can almost feel/hear myself, there.
Peace to you, Laura

What? What? How could you??? *breaks into tears*
(ahem) Of course I don't mind, Phil.
I like this, and thank you for recalling that moment. It was a good one, and well worthy of poetry. The building's echo was more to credit than my playing, though - the whistle can't sound bad in that environment.
That was a good time, that was...

It is a remarkable thing, really, when a poet manages to truly capture a moment and put it on the page as it was in that instant and as it will, too, remain. And Philly... my goodness, you certainly have done that here. In the truest sense of the word, you have honored that moment.
This piece opens beautifully and by the italicized line in the third stanza, the reader understands that this is not just any moment - but a moment of wonder and inspiration. I don't quite know how to say this, Philly... but... this piece, so clearly evidences your talent as a writer. You have caught a moment (and the moments within that moment) and shared it in a way that not many can/will. I'm incredibly impressed by this piece and to be honest, I envy what you've done here. You should be very proud of this, hon... truly, it is an amazing piece.
*hugs*

Wow, Phil, this is just...just...so remarkable. I am so impressed with this, the feeling, the imagery; it's like we are there with you.
Thank you very much for sharing with us and taking us there (who were not there) in that moment in time. You are so talented.
*is very impressed and applauds*
Thank you,
Tim

Dearest Phil,
When I first read this, I had not known of the origin and I was lost in it's sheer beauty.
Now that I know of it's beginnings, I am astounded by how you captured that beauty!!
Snemmy is right. This is something to be truly proud of hun. Alone, it is completely
awe-inspiring, but with the sentiment surrounding it's creation, it is positively stunning!!
Written with amazing positive and sweet remembrance. I love it entirely!
*hugs*

I had heard of Andrew's penny whistle, but reading this ... nearly made me believe I had lived the moment. Thanks then both to Philly for the words and Andrew for the inspiration for a truly moving moment !!

Makes me wish I had been there with you two.
But I am truely glad for you and feel this is the next best thing, perhaps better, as it comes from your heart. |
