In our attempt to discover "me"
Some try to rein "me" in
Keep "me" hostage, a captive within

Some search for "me" in love
Only to find devastation and sadness there
Others are abusive and struggle to intimidate
To make "me" dependent, rather then free

Some cower in the background
Hiding to avoid being rejected
While others continue to party
And are able to stay disconnected

Some are feeling unworthy
So they fear to set "me" free
But that's the only way, you see
If I stay, then it was meant to be

Perhaps the problem is reflected in our unhappy faces
And searching in the wrong places
Don't you understand you can't,
Pursue "me" as an end in itself

Only when we experience peace on the inside
Can we exhibit happiness on the outside
And ultimately if we believe,
God's unconditional love sets us free

Then perhaps we will discover in our hearts
Where personal satisfaction must start
So that we are secure in whom "we" are
And happiness may ultimately be discovered there....

A pure and wonderful bit of advice here, Wil. I love this completely!

The last stanza is incredible! Undeniable truth, my friend! I am both
elated and excited by the message. And I am in total agreement!!
I've always felt that happiness was more of a discovery, than a pursuit.
Something that we always possess, in fact. Just sitting there . . . waiting . . .
for us to remember.

*loves this*

Splendid write, Will. Full of truth. You will not find completeness and satisfaction in "ME" ever. "ME" by itself is always lacking. "WE" is complete and whole and never alone. I truly do relate to this write. Exceptional work.

OMG Will, This piece was wise as wise could be. I found pieces of me and pieces of those I've encountered in here. Very good, Will. I always love and respect your work....seems I always learn a bit of something too. Peace and love my friend, Laura

There is great wisdom in your words.

As you wisely state we must first experience peace on the inside.

For how can we love others if we have no love for ourselves?

It would do a lot of people good (my self included) to meditate and reflect on the words in this poem.

I like this. In your poem you teach a great lesson about unity and what is important. This is one of the best poems i have read by you.
