Array ( [sid] => 11707 [catid] => 1 [aid] => Mick [title] => Sad poetry at 12.30am in the stifling heat and a red chemise [time] => 2003-01-31 16:40:00 [hometext] => I wrote this poem five hours after slamming the phone in my boyfriends ear when he said something hurtful. I knew he was having a rough time and once I'd calmed down, was sorry I'd lacked the patience and understanding he needed from me. [bodytext] =>
It's still

even the geckos are in silent repose

the computer hum is my only companion

i sit and scratch around for words.

The words are meant to replace two i've said before

and three i've said often.

Those five seem inappropriate and inadequate.

I wear red nail polish and a red chemise

red is meant to be life and vitality

but tonight it is lonely heat.

Finally I hear raindrops on the buckling green patio cover

and they are my teardrops

tears of frustration and distance and not knowing.

And in the end, the five words seem better than any I could

weave myself.

I'm sorry.

I love you. [comments] => 1 [counter] => 278 [topic] => 50 [informant] => AllyC [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 10 [ratings] => 2 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => ApologyPoetry )
