I turned on the news and heard all about strife!
Young people playing basketball games outside--
Making joyful noise -- an old man can't abide!
He takes out his gun and then threatens to harm,
The 12 year olds just run away in alarm!
Parents are worried where their young ones can play.
Where can the youth have safe fun all during the day?

A 15 year old taunts the old man next door--
Trampling, trespassing--causing tempers to soar!
The old man put up with this for too many years.
Can't abide anymore, shoots the boy -- causes tears!
A meaningless death caused by taunting and pride.
Who will give thought to the story's other side?
What is wrong in this tale of death that we hear?
Why are we all falling under this dread and fear?

A 13 year old can't deal with his Grandma no more!
He takes out a sharp knife and stabs her to death -- what for?
He is angry that she mentions his low grades in school;
He's angry that she might care about him turning cruel!
Too late for Grandma -- she may have yelled at him too much!
He kills her and is branded as murderer or such!
Who should we all fear, the old, the parents, or the young?
This is going too far beyond the words of the tongue!

Soldiers go to war overseas for our freedoms they fight!
Two of them die and our country screams, "That's NOT Right!"
We do not want the terrorists here in our land.
We argue and get angry that this war's been planned!
We don't take the time to realize we need to just pray--
For our soldiers and the lives of the others today!
It is sad with all these tales of death that we hear!
It's time to get back to our God and not to fear!

Yes, all these horrible stories are true,
But isn't there someone who may help us through?
Let it be know that good things still occur!
We still focus on bad and let good be a blur!
Maybe it's time for encouragement to ring out!
Maybe it's time for those happy voices to shout!
God is alive and He loves us and, YES, He cares!
Let's take the dreads to Him -- all our burdens He bares!

He cares about where our young people can play outside!
Let old men remember their youth--Let anger subside!
May families who lose their trespassing sons understand
And somehow forgive an old man's rashness that was planned!
May the 13 year old hear that God loves him today,
Humble himself and turn to God from his wicked way!
For the soldiers who died to keep our freedom alive,
Comfort and pray for their families and do not deprive!

Please, just open our eyes, Lord, that we may all see
That You are still loving all these people that be.
Please, open our ears, Lord, so that we may all hear--
That You are a God of true love and not of fear!
Open our mouths, so we can encourage others!
Let's try to understand our sisters and brothers!
Let our hands reach and help the hearts that are broken,
So they may all mend through the peaceful words spoken.

Then, just maybe then, there will be more joy shared!
The world can look and find that we all cared,
About those angry, hurt or misunderstood.
We reached out with real love as much as we could!
We pray for each other with our eyes opened wide!
We stand with the needy and help them be supplied!
We hear about peaceful, positive sides of life
And the news expounds on joy and not at all strife! [comments] => 5 [counter] => 172 [topic] => 21 [informant] => Lin54 [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 5 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => Lifepoems )

I think you may have partly answered your own question. There is a lot to be learned from all of this, a lot of it bad, but some of it good. I really believe that a tiny bit of good comes out of everything.

It's terrible that all of this is so true, I know. But, I think the end of your poem is possibl, and that things like this will open peoples' eyes.

Anyway, great write with a nice, clear message.

*hugs*

A WONDERFUL PEICE OF WORK AND THE TRUTH IS IN THE READING. I WISH THAT WE COULD JUST TAP PEOPLE ON THE HEAD SOMETIMES AND SAY WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE, BUT UNFORTUNIATELY IT'S NOT THAT EASY. IF PEOPLE WOULD JUST GIVE JESUS A TRY THEY WOULD SEE THE WORLD A WHOLE NEW WAY, THEY WOULD LOVE INSTEAD OF HATE . WOULDN'T IT BE GREAT IF WE COULD GET RID OF SATAN.? I KNOW WE CAN'T, BUT I KNOW A MAN WHO CAN AND ONE DAY I AM GOING TO MEET HIM FACE TO FACE AND THAT IS WHAT KEEPS ME GOING, I HAVE GOD'S GREAT AND PRECIOUS PROMISES !!!! THANK YOU LORD, AND THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS IT HELPS TO REMIND US ALL THAT WE ARE VERY BLESSED EVEN IF WE DON'T DESERVE IT !!!
