I shall conquer this love,
I whispered to myself,
and the words drifted back to me,
like the wind of a thousand beating wings,
sounding hollow to my own ears.
I shall smother these flames
I said,
before it burns everything in it's path,
leaving me with nothing.
But no river could extinguish this fire.
No ocean could cool my passion.
I shall free myself of this uncertainty,
I vowed.
But the certainty of my own love was complete,
and my words were only to decieve myself,
because of his reluctance to love.
I shall harden my heart,
I swore.
But it was too late,
for he already held my heart in his hands.
My words, empty in their meaning.
I will conquer this love I thought...

Probably one of my favorite poems I've read on the site for a long time. I felt as though these words were reflecting my own feelings right now and they were so honest, so lovely. Really, this was brilliant. I adored it. |
