All faded lace and silver hair
Your face already a skull upon the pillow
Lit eerily at night
By some ambient light
Beaming at the mouth of the narrow corridor
Below the dull distempered walls of your ward

A faded rainbow mist of silk
Faintly cast and smudged
Shrunken and sunken into yesterday
A fragile shadow on parched landscape
Fingers stirring like limp mice
Twitching 'round the winding shrouds
Of sheets
Scarcely clinging to grace and dignity an ifinity
Lying gently in perpetual twilight
Not bothering the hurrying nurses for a drop of water

Brought by life's meaner barbarities to this

Wrinkled and shriveled up in a crisp bed
Coughing up phlegm and speckled blood
Dead
Incontinent in the night

A genteel ghost whispering words of no complaint
Patient as proverbial earth marked out waiting
To receive your few fish-thin bones
Beauty now safely behind you
Rolling into the fire

All My Love..

Billy

Haunting. Usually this type of poetry isn't my thing but you've portrayed death in such a shivering yet beautiful way. You portrayed so well without anything that jumped out that I'm not sure if the phlegm and blood line is neccessary. The message is there already by the way you wrote such good 'portraits'.

I especially liked this line: "Fingers stirring like limp mice"

It sends a shiver in the bones. Such an alive poem regarding death.

Your poem took my breath away and brought tears to my eyes. Many other readers will see their loved ones in this powerful writing. I see my father and my heart hurts.

Although what you intended the reader to glean from this was brushed aside by me. I took from it the meaningfulness you undoubtedly intended.

“Wrinkled and shriveled up in a crisp bed
Coughing up phlegm and speckled blood
Dead”

Powerful and appropriate

Grim and gripping, and very well put-together. Good work, Billy.

A tremendous sadness fills the air upon the perusal of this wonderfully
bitter account and of the lastingness of a heavy heart. I cry for you and
for all the wearied souls that carry [even a small] torture with them daily.
[ you know I know of this ... ]

How wonderful it is that your gift allows you an outlet to pour down a piece
of yourself onto the pages. Still, tis a burden this emotional turmoil we
sometimes find ourselves wrapped up in. But in a creative and masterful
way, you take hold of these feelings, thereby aleviating some of the
discomfort they induce.

Outstanding, dear Billy. Far and above. God! You're talent is limitless !!

ever and always . . . a PM away

~Breezy

death is not lovely by all means. we must all go through it. You showed death coming about in words.. poetic style.. pray once our bodies stop ticking, our souls keep living and on to a better place. I pray all has breath enough to say Jesus I love you, hold me and take me to you, if you can't say it out loud, perhaps you will inside. your poem sent me to tears.. I pray we roll into the colorful light and not fade into the fire. You know we are all that fragile as silk.
