Should I answer? -- it could be an enemy in sheep's raiment!
IF I let this unknown person in, he/she might be here to destroy.
This fear keeps on haunting me and the knocking I don't enjoy!

There is no where to hide myself away from this constant sound;
Also there are things I don't want them to see laying around!
It's horrible to feel this intrusion on my lonely life!
The echoing sound of the knocking sure cuts through like a knife!

Why can't I just be left alone, hidden away from the crowd?
Why would anyone want to bother with me now? -- that knock's so loud!
Do I hear a voice behind the knocking asking to come in?
The voice comes softly and beckons my attention like a friend.

Do I really want to let a friend see conditions within?
I fear the criticizing judgment that a friend may begin
That friend may laugh at me and I'm not sure I can handle it
I feel sooo weak and fragile -- my past hurts makes me a misfit

Again the voice comes softly to beckon me another time
I'm thinking of giving in, would this friend look at me like slime?
I would like to have a friend that accepts the way I am now
Could this be the one friend? I only wish it could be somehow!

I creep near the locked door and listen to the sound of that knock
Maybe I'll open the door and let this stranger and I talk.
What harm could it do, the voice sounds soooo very friendly and kind.
Surely if it were an enemy--he'd just break in my mind!

Before I reach to open the door, I ask whose at my door
The answer shakes me a bit, it's Jesus, how dare I ignore
Come in and visit and forgive me and my life-made-up-mess,
Please say we can be friends as I am ready for nothing less!

Jesus showed more love and interest in every part of me,
He didn't condemn or criticize the mess that he could see.
He stayed to talk and walk and promised to be there at all times.
We became friends and He helped me through all the falls and the climbs

Why was I soooo hesitant when He first knocked at my heart's door?
I thought He was the enemy who condemns as he explores!
I couldn't stand being torn up verbally, I've been there a lot
Yet, Jesus is so kind and He just shows me its love I sought! Dang, your poem is awesome. It is so easy to follow and I totally related to the feelings you talked about here. And you rhymed the entire thing!!! That is so impressive to me.

I'm not into the whole "Jesus" thing. I don't like religion. But you wrote such a good poem that I didn't even mind the Jesus references. If Christianity works for you, then that's great. You seem like one of the few Christians I could get along with. Take care and, again, great poem. I give you respect.
