Silhouetted against the full moon
Casting eerie shadows
Upon the timberline
Of the snow blanketed conifer forest
The carnivore stands majestic
His haunting howl
Breaking the silence of the wilderness
Stalking
Hunting
Ostraciized from the pack
Searching for a mate, new territory
A lonesome howl
Breath vaporizes in ithe frigid night air
Keen piercing eyes stare
Scanning
Searching
Sensing danger
A low growl swells
Another eerie, prolonged howl
Ears perked
Senses alert
Then in the far distant hills
He hears an answering howl
Low at first, building to a crescendo
Another sound, Bang
A bullet whistles past his head
Suddenly, he leaps
His form a gray streak
Flashing through the forest
Bang, another bullet narrowly misses
Out of range, safe for now
He heads for the sound
Of a female wolf
Now a pair
Temporarily, the survival of a species is spared

Made me think how man has hunted a lot of species into extinction, sometimes for no other reason but sport.
I found this a pacy, descriptive read very well written indeed.

My apologies, good sir, for my absence as of late ... (completely
and totally my loss .... )
I LOVED the title of this, (was what drew me to it), and what
follows was artfully inspiring! I happen to have a special
affinity for wolves, believing them to be a most misunderstood
creature.
I adored this piece, wil ! Excellent job .
