I had to reach the border,
I had to forsake the Nazi order.
So much rubble homes couldn’t take anymore,
Window frames clatter as another bomb tore.
I didn’t want to end up dead for a crime,
Stealing claret while SS Officers dine.
Scrambling over corpus and boulders,
Gravel whitened my weakened shoulder.
Animals scurried away as I pad,
I wish the Germans would I thought sad.
All my friends now dead relations,
They called it cleansing for the Jewish population.
I saw it as death’s declaration,
Covered up by an evil nation.
My life was always circumstantial,
Forever on the run always financial.
I had family even Aunts,
All in prison camps others in France.
The evil Swastika hew,
Black-White death pendants everybody new.
Arian race pure adoring,
Hitler’s speeches cold official words outpouring.
Mesmerizing eyes that bored his song,
Printing images they saw no wrong.
I continue to dream as furnace smoke plumes,
Will I ever reach the border as more barbed wire looms?
