so often in the mid' of night,
a strain of music visits me
hushed in a moment... silvery-
such a rich and raptured sound it makes
that the very soul of silence aches
with longing for it's melody.

Like lovers in the distant dusk
of summer gardens, sweet as musk..
pouring blissful burden out..
the breaking joy... the dying doubt

...or voices over-flown with wine
while in the madness half divinely,
beating some broken tune about-

or maybe rude and rolling notes
that leave cajoling sailor's throats,
though hoarse with salty spray.. it be'
of many a nautical mile of sea-
as some light minded dreamer strays
late through their solitary days
and heeds the listening night for me-

For when the time those tones be heard,
the hearing slumbering soul is stirred:
as when a swiftly passing light
startles the shadows into light..
and one rememberance suddenly
spills through the melting melody...

so often in the mid' of night. [comments] => 13 [counter] => 509 [topic] => 60 [informant] => Man_On_High [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 15 [ratings] => 3 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => insomniac )

That last verse touches me gently but very deeply for some reason. The line; "startles the shadows into light." seemed to sear and imprint upon my psyche. Not sure if it is closeted fear or rememberance or knowledge that it is just shadows looming as shadows tend to do. This write is amazing, as you are, my dear friend. Never let that ink dry.

The whole composition is just beautiful Billy. But the first stanza . . .

WOW!

Such a stirring of emotion here and how completely perfect
in it's delivery. This whole piece felt almost like a warm and
most delightful hug. Such a treasured gift, do you possess,
my dear friend. Never stop sharing it.

So lyrical and it just happens to go with the song I'm listening to. The third and fourth lines especially moving for some reason, but many of the words you've chosen hold so much meaning - it's a very "drifting off to nostalgia" kind of a poem. Excellent work. J.

Sit back and think....
You have set the mood, of remissining, on "all"
Always a pleasure, to AWE on one of your beautiful creations. The last stanza was amazing. Sent chills in me, as I read.

Always

"maybe rude and rolling notes

your words extend feelings to be borrowed from the page...as the reader is so moved, he can no longer choose one direction (or one feeling) in reading the poem.

great writing
