Our lives barely begun
There were fields beyond
And every day the sun shone

We’d run everywhere
Always inpatient to get there
Innocent the child
As we grew up happy and wild

There was adventure to be had
Driving all the grownups so mad
A dirty face and matted hair
But always a cheeky smile there

Every tree a potential fort
Lessons of life self taught
A pond, a fishing net
Strange insects for a pet

In all we did there was no malice
Shared blanket for crystal palace
No tears in pretend fights
Early morning til called in at night

A sheriffs badge, a cowboy hat,
For a magic carpet a coconut mat,
Against evil we were the best,
Until battle won we would not rest

Why did we have to get older?
Tired limbs and mind less bolder
Bodies getting frail in many ways
But never will I forget those days.

I close my eyes and smile, you too?
At all the things we used to do
Whatever our lives have yet to yield
They cannot take away our fields.
