Unsure of what I wanted,
So docile and so meek.

Then I was a violet,
grew scared and felt alone.
I found out what I needed,
But could not make it known.

So then I am a carnation,
I just wanted to be desired.
But passion sleeps with danger,
And I could not escape the fire.

Like a melancholy iris,
I had to own up the costs.
I fell into my regret,
And all my hope was lost.

And I had to be a cactus bloom,
with my amour I would hide.
Could not handle any weakness,
I would never admit what was inside.

Now I am destined like a rose is,
to hurt everyone with my thorns.
I am so afraid to be damaged,
I would rather tear than be torn.

I have been pulled by the roots,
silent now, and unnamed.
I was dying of thirst,
But the rains never came.

loved the way you compared yourself with the flowers and the rose with its thorns. Beautiful in its content and your poetic talent shines on.

Loving flowers as I do....I found the way you compared yourself....kind and refreshing, even though you are conveying feelings of pain. Very nice piece of poetry. Peace, Laura
