Our Mid-west winter's not the same.
Use to get inches of drifting snow,
now precipitation mainly falls as rain.

January days with temperatures,
Spring-time mild.
Confused little buds on the lilacs.
Unnatural warmth, giving false hopes
to the small blooming child.

The Canadian Goose use to fly away
further on south from here.
Carpet of feathered friends now,
sitting upon the lake.
This unusual warmth
keeps them near.

No snow for angels to be made.
No men to build with eyes of coal.
No ice on the pond to skate across,
like in the days I recall, long ago.

Global warming increasing every year
Too many humans, existing here.
Burning up the fossil fuels.
Destruction of our beautiful mother,
is one of my greatest fears.

Humans seem to live in such a
ME- ME- ME world
It's all vanity and govermental lies
Couldn't care less about this Earth...
and how sacred it is, to you and I.

So very true dearest Laura. I live in Australia and lately we've had soaring temperatures like never before. I fear for the future my friend.

Humans seem to live in such a
ME- ME- ME world
It's all vanity and govermental lies
Couldn't care less about this Earth...
and how sacred it is, to you and I.

I so much agree with u. It's so sad, but it's the truth. A good, strong and well penned piece of poetry. Well done Laura.
*warm hugs*

This is a great poem Laura. We've noticed changes in the seasonal weather down in Oz too.
This is a serious problem (possible understatement of the year, and it's only just begun. lol).
A very honest write, I like it.

Yes, that is why there was a ban removing those aerosol sprays. The floral carbons have broken down the ozone layer. Scientists are hoping that nature can mend itself, found out a little too late though. thank you for this write. raquelLeah

There is much truth in this-
..we are in the midst of some "great global shift"
global warming being one of many changes to come
...and soon.

Much peace to you-

B

I wrote a children's story about two flowers..and it has a part about winter being a prankster who sometimes comes in with warm air to trick the young into blooming too early..LOL this reminds me of my story. :-)

to make her mind up here in Ireland..

You are a good poet, but I dis-agree with your assumptions in this poem. Did you know that the "experts" were warning of a coming "new ice age" about 50 years ago?
Wait a while and the earth's weather pattern will change, and the "experts" will change their prognostications accordingly.
God bless.
