It sure caused me some fear and lots of fright
I found myself in the midst of a town we once lived in
And all those we knew and called friends were like strangers again

Several were in town and at booths selling homemade fares
So I approached 'my friends' and discussed the latest affairs
They all acted indifferent to me or so it seems
Where is this scene leading me in this strangest of strange dreams?

The wares and fares that they were selling were surely high price
Yet the clothing they wore was ragged and torn - not at all nice
Two of my long ago friends offered to show me a new place
It was right out of town and they drove their car at a slow pace

After many turns and completely getting me lost along the way
We arrived at the "place" and entered a side door that shadowed the day
Immediately the huge cathedral styled building gave me the creeps
And the many people who gathered inside sat stiffly in their seats

I followed my friends down the steps to a seat near the middle that they chose
And as I sat, I glanced around to see if other friends were sitting close
I saw a Pastor friend from very long ago, sitting and staring straight ahead
So I looked to the front of this so-called church and listened to what was being said

A lady sat at the piano and the music flowed eerily along
This was really creeping me out -- as there were no words that would go with this song
She quietly got up and moved to her seat - but the music continued all on it's own
I wondered if this was a cue for me to get up and call for help at the nearest phone

Yet I continued to warily keep watch and see what would happen next up front
Out came several men dressed in "Levitical-Catholical" robes and garment
They proceeded to chant some mumble jumble along the Biblical line
But there was something missing -- something that's very hard to define

One man then broke up loaves of bread and tossed some on the end of each pew
Some of the gathering picked up the crumbs and slowly began to chew
But no one looked at each other - no one shared a smile or acted like they cared
Then when I glanced back at my friends -- it really freaked me out--they weren't even there...

Some of the crowd walked to the front and seemed to just be yelled at by those men
Others just sat stone still - like soaking all this deadly mumble jumble in
I just had to get out of there -- I just had to leave -- but which way was out?
I roamed through the hallways and ev'ry direction seemed to lead the wrong route.

I couldn't believe it--no matter which way I went always lead me to the front
There had to be a way out--where was the door? Those men I didn't want to confront!
It seemed the minute came to face my fears of this place so dreary drear
There must be a divine purpose to why in the world I was lead here

It was then--again I can't explain it--but a sense of strength started to fill me
The Lord started speaking to my inner most being and setting me so boldly free
I ran to the dreaded front and proclaimed to the gathering there
"You aren't free"--"You need life"--"You don't have peace"--"You need my God who cares"

"These men just seem to want to keep you bound and afraid to know the true Lord
If they keep you from the Word, they know you will be their slaves tied by their cord!"
The words from God came quick and the words were sharp and did just what was needed
The people stirred hungrily for God's truth while the enemy was defeated

It was then the music came again--but much sweeter than before
The voices truly Praised God on high with sweet harmony and more
So now what did this dream mean and why did I feel such fright and fear?
I believe the world likes to hedge us in and all seems very drear

We go about our ways - thinking we can handle it all on our own
We reach for things to 'enrich' our lives and find we own it all on loans
The men are like creditors that entice us with the riches we can obtain
Then when we have to beg for mercy or patience they yell at us for being vain

Just when we need to speak up for our God and be bold to come against the world's ways,
We fear and tremble and forget that God will not forsake us for any of our days
He will give us the words of truth and peace to hand out to those around
If we just put our trust in Him and let His abundant ways abound

Our needs will be met and we do not have to fret about what we will be
He cares for the pretty flowers -- so I know He really cares about me!
We can boldly tell others who are enslaved to this dreary life
That there is a much, much better way that won't cause us so much strife!

Jesus is that way, He is that truth, and yes, He is the life, He is the Prince of Peace!
He is my Lord, He is my God, and yes, He is my life, and all my fears release!
He is waiting to be your Lord, too, why not turn to Him today
Don't stay caught in this dreary world, for God has a much better way! Thank you Linda. There is a way in to get lost, and a way out to be found by the grace of our Good and Great Father. He separates the weeds from the pretty flowers. His song will keep us in harmony, peace, joy.
