How you're destroying the daughter of we.
I understand what you want her to learn
But the words you use, you need to discern
Yes, there are many areas she needs to improve
But to tear down with words of hatred don't make her move
She's defeated being called a failure before doing anything
So why try--the label of never succeeding is already sticking
I'm very sorry if these words sound unkind--
But the power of the tongue destroys or is kind
Which choice of words would sound better and loving to those you speak to
"You are a nobody", "a loser", "never be anything", "not cool"
OR "you can do it"--"I'm completely behind you"--"Let's work together"
Then maybe add an "I love you" no matter the effort--it's better!
You haven't seen or even stopped to listen
Her cry out for love and the tears that glisten
She sees how you can easily hug others with care
Then wonders silently what you with her no hugs share
When the sudden demands come harshly for things to be done
She responds with no respect due to 'no love--no action'
You ask why I won't back you in your demands to obey
I do, but not exactly in the harsh demanding way
Please reconsider a more loving approach in your requests
I think that would really show that you care and that would be best
Eventually this daughter's self esteem will begin to grow
Then all tension and anger between you both will cease to flow
I really hope you will know and hope you will see
That we must not destroy this daughter of we! [comments] => 2 [counter] => 182 [topic] => 48 [informant] => Lin54 [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 5 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => EmotionalPoetry )

Listen to the Lord, He will tell you what is best. Judge not a single man, listen to what you can, agree to what you can, then if you feel in your heart you are being torn down, your household also, then it is time to get the destruction out and away from you and yours.. RL

Nice write! With a 10 year old daughter who is very sensitive, I can already see what is coming in the next 8 years or so. Don Henley wrote a beautiful lullaby to his daughter called "Goodnight Annabelle." My favorite part is:
"...I may not be there to catch you, anytime that you might fall.
But you've got my hard head, and your mother's grace.
All the likeness of the loved ones, right there in your face.
And I know, in the end you'll be who you will be.
So sleep tight Annabelle, you can always count on me."
Your poem reminded me of that song.
