In this cold cold room
Hospital or at home
I lie dying
Sickness or injury doesn't matter
Each corner I look with shifty eyes
Sobs of family I hear the cries
Too still to move yet I shudder
The shadow of death looks over me
Behind a curtain
It's me I'm certain
Darkness looks and sees
A cold tingle in my toes
I grasp my rosery
Fingers too numb to feel each bead
The shadow of death never glows
From my window a skeleton branch
Reaching evermore with scratchy claws
Chilling cold sweat from out of my pores
The shadow death but ready to pounce
With eyes closed I still see
A care giver or nurse
I hover and I curse
Deaths shadow overshadows me
Weeping eyes all about
I fear my judgement
Too late for commandments
Leave me; I cannot shout
A tunnel draws
Darkness
Brightness
The shadow claws
Breath my spirit drawn without
Family friends please please pray Eternities forever day
In each corner death waits about

Sinned

I had a dream like this, not long ago, I did not mind friends and family at my beside, or the flowers.. the whole arrangement, as I lay there, they, waiting for me to die.. but the one thing I could not stand, which bothered the holy hell out of me lol, was when they started playing that damned sobbing music.. I sat up in my bed, and said, will someone please turn off that damned music, I am trying to rest here lol. and then I woke up lol.. well, your poem, allowed me to remember my dream lol...
Your a wonderful writer...

Be a lamp in the chamber, if you cannot be a star in the sky.. author unknown..

Oh my dear friend Dennis. It is profitable to familiarize oneself with death.
Some religious orders even use coffins as a bed. But I believe the loving acceptance of it is sifficient.
The poem is abolutely beautiful and heart-wrenching, but I believe we must not overly much dwell on it, it does not nourish the soul.
The day after tomorrow is the great feast of the Epiphany, If you find time, have a look of my posting to that effect..
Why think of the commandments when the life itself has been lived, to the best of one's endeavor to the greater Glory of God
I remember the famous Jesuit writer Karl Rahner" who wrote, "I just throw myself into the arms of God"
You should read his splendid writings on the subject..
"Comfort Thee my people" "whosoever believeth in me shall never taste death"

Wonderful poem!

In communion of prayers

Elizabeth
