I'M A KEEPER ARE YOU?

'Twas a blistering cold day
on the day he died.
In the warmth of our bedroom
I sat stunned, and dry eyed.....
A young man only 38 in his prime
I wanted to scream "Stop the time,
Please stop all time!"

Precisely, in that moment, I realized
he was gone.....
No more hugs, no more comforting
words, I sat there until dawn.
I watched his life seep slowly away....
Horrible pain of realizing that
sometimes no matter how much
you love a person, or how much
you try.......there will be no more
not even for a day!

N'er again will my front door open and
I'll hear "I love you honey!"
His "bear hugs" were worth more to
me than a Million Dollars real money.
No more loving encouragement.....
Sometimes there's no returning when
someone you love is absent.

Sometimes those we love the most
simply go away,
No notice, no warning, we won't even know
the moment or the day?
He never said, "Goodbye" I said,
"I love you" but did he hear me?
He was in a coma.
Helplessness, defeating, death's trauma

With one breath, his last, I learned.
Your priorities change, are rearranged,
your whole life upturned,
So while you still can love them dearly,
If they are sick care for them early

This is true for marriages, or relationships
If they are strained, or broken,
try to mend e'vn if hardship.
My little Winnie dog has seizures
but she's in no pain,
Do I put her to sleep because I can?
Am I being selfish or inhumane?

The oldsters in each of our families?
Nanna's and Bompa's are they our
"Crazies" or our "Beauties?"
We keep them close and dearly love them
Because we want to, we cherish them!

Our best friends that moved away,
or our classmate, our best pal
in high school?
Do we keep them close to our
hearts, part of our "Love-Pool?"
I'm a "Keeper" are you? I keep
everyone and everything
that makes me happy.....
Life is so precious, and
so are those that we keep
close and love deeply.

I received this from a dear
classmate that thought I
was a "Keeper"
And he was so right, I'd keep
all my friends, and all my pets
if I could, for then I'd never be a
"Weeper!"
Now I'm sending this to all those
other "Keepers" that I know
Hoping they too will send it along
to all the "Keepers" they know.......

I made the story mine,
and wrote the poem

Do not look back and grieve over the past,

One thing I've noticed about most of your writing is that
it harbours within it a wealth of wisdom and experience.
I adore that about your poems. And this was no exception.
Keepers fill with us the reasons to open our eyes everyday
and continue to breathe. Thank you for sharing this consue.
It's completely and utterly beautiful!! ^_^
