Cloaked in the shadowy grays of dusk,
she stood looking down...
not at her feet,
the cracked earth,
or the yellow-brown spriglets of parched grass,
but at the expansive emptiness below...
she was not alone,
or rather,
she was not the only being present...
a child and a man were with her, also...
the child slept...
arms around a mother's neck,
head resting on this familiar maternal shoulder
in a manner that could not be,
were there no confidence, faith and trust,
supported by a left arm,
and secured by the remaining right...
innocence kept the child at peace,
ignorant of her mother's intent...
though mere centimeters comprised the distance between the man and this woman,
the man only spoke...
he spoke with an intensity that could only be understood
with the realization
he had no arms,
and no legs...
all he had were words...
