To start crying when life makes you small,
Are you alone, the only one to feel hurt,
When your lover walks with hollow smirk.

Why does the rest of the world laugh aloud,
You breath heavy but all the tears shroud,
What resides really deep inside your head,
That your lover has another now instead.

Every time you close your eyes you recall,
Moments of togetherness, forget it you fool,
But you can’t shut it out, still they stay,
And, yes, forever that image will be that way.

Time is no healer because in the dead of night,
You will awaken, sweating, full of fright,
As you try to reach the image clear in your mind,
Your lover so very close but leaving you behind.

The next time you make love it won’t seem right,
Because all the time all you will have in sight,
Is the image of a lover who is no longer there,
The one who with a smile left you with a tear.
