On top of shattered dreams
And broken trust
Because no one took heed to your cries
They just gave you sympathetic stares
And clucked their tongues like fools
They put in their two cents
And then laid on you their pointless cares

Now you flick your forked-tongue
Trying to drag humanity under
One by one, two by two, or hundred by a hundred
You won't go til your final songs been sung
We hail you, your beleaugered masses
We are your servants we owe our lives to you,
But we're only skeletons, we burn the crooked crosses
We smile and salute your darkened figure as you give us the 40 lashes

We hear the thump of our metal boots
And your maddened voice
Echoing over the shallow, empty plains
Mother and child cry, food gone, as they subsist on roots
You smile as bodies mix with the dust
Your laugh is choked off by the dried blood in your throat
You pat your fat belly and rub your greasy hands together
Pick up a child, bounce it on your knee
To bad its dead, to bad its dead
To bad you couldn't spare a bread crust

What a compelling poem...it's dark as are its vivid images but then so are the emotions of
a hurt, bitter and twisted soul. It's an excellent piece Joel and serves to warn us how we have to battle against being angry with the world. Well done.
Chrissie

Thank you for your very kind words to me on my last poem...I am touched.

Wow. This poem definently describes a leader of war. Its very dark, but very impressive. Its hard really, to respond to it because its so shocking. Still, its amazingingly talented.
