You the immortal daughter of Zeus, Your beauty was the reason so many men knelt Before you, as in worshipful act. Indeed, every red blooded man in Greece Upon hearing of your voluptuous beauty Held the dream of possessing you. Because of your magnificent splendor You were desired by many, hated by no small number, Hordes of men fighting over you, The earth running red with blood shed in your name. You the mythological being of divine descent, Endowed with such great and overwhelming power, You who were lust and who were lusted after, You who loved and were so alluringly loved, You were, it must be said, creation and destruction combined. Oh you goddess of the grandest order, I pen, today, a tribute to the yet persistent And enduring memory of your dazzling beauty, Of your legendary charms and of such other aspects Of you as made the staunchest of the stanch grow pale. Oh Helen, I say, in paying you this tribute, Even to such as I you have been, and continue to be, A tantalizing enigma and a wonder of wonders! E.
