Stagger to the critic room
Seven minutes in front of that mirror
Waiting for the what the judge will assume
And lowered eyes will walk away
Ever empty, still

Through the croon of my own lonely
My melodic lullaby
I venture ever forward
Lock the questions in the back of my mind
Why is so shallow
Its linger so bleak
I don’t dare to answer
Hollow in what there is to speak

I know the cost of equality
I fear the sting of truth
I’d rather grow calloused and bitter
Than rectify my feeble pursuits

Lock the questions in the blank of my mind
Restrain them, detain them
Transform them into lies

Lies go down so smooth
They satisfy and soothe
As I push away the fork and spoon
I sell myself, “this only affects you”

Why is so shallow
Its linger so stark
I don’t dare to answer
Hollow in the explanations that there are

Drowsy in my own oblivion
My cage made by these hands
Lock eyes with that creature
In my reflection
These are the necessary demands
Lies slide down the blank of my mind
Soothing and satisfying
Blinding my crime

Why is so shallow
Its linger so loud
I don’t dare to answer
I just follow the crowd

I know the cost of equality
I fear the sting of truth
I’d rather grow calloused and bitter
Than rectify my feeble pursuits

Besides, lies go down so damn smooth

Great opening stanza. it's heavy, with what i think is judgement of one's self? I like the slight repetition you use to emphasize certain parts of the poem... it really adds sincerity and reflection.

My fave lines though, have to be:

Lies go down so smooth
They satisfy and soothe
As I push away the fork and spoon
I sell myself, “this only affects you”

Very strongly put, and so sourfully true.
I look forward to the next piece...

"Drowsy in my own awareness..."
"...I fear the sting of truth...I’d rather grow calloused and bitter, than rectify my feeble pursuits..."
"Drowsy in my own oblivion..."
"My cage made by these hands, lock eyes with that creature in my reflection, these are the necessary demands..."
"Lies slide down the blank of my mind, soothing and satisfying...blinding my crime..."

I was particularly drawn to the "drowsy" lines...the imagery made a depth of communication possible for me...the line about cages reminded of Sting's, "Soul Cages," song...the whole "lies" concept delves into the whole dilema of perception...at times, more often than not, probably, we artificially buttress our perceptions because they are our only source of security...

...effective...artfully accomplished, but sad...
