My man’s not in town, will you come for a drink?
‘I said I didn’t see you around in a couple of weeks
And you left without leavin’ a smile or a wink’

But how could I resist that smile and that gaze, when you said:
Let’s go to the coast for a couple of days
I said ‘sure sounds great, I can think of worse ways
To spend life than with a woman and the sound of the waves

And as the waves crashed around you, oh, how good you looked,
I could’ve sworn you were a picture from a catalogue book,
You would’ve laughed if you knew the trouble it took,
To keep my mind free from sin and my eyes on my book

Maybe I shouldn’t have shaken your tree,
Should’ve known that your peaches weren’t meant for me,
But then maybe I should’nt have shared them with me,
In the tunnel of love, on the beach by the sea.

And the sun slowly died and the full moon shone down,
You stayed warm with some wine and I sang you some songs,You said
‘Hey, its quite pretty here out here in the stars,
Mabye we should spend the dark night outdoors?’

So we looked for a place we could lay down our heads,
Found a playground with a tunnel we could use for a bed, you said –
Maybe there’s really only room for one,
But we squeezed in real close, did what we could to keep warm.

Side by side, we sailed, we sailed,
Side by side, we sailed, we sailed,

And God only knows how I left with my life,
When the sun hit the sky and your boyfriend arrived, He said
'hey how did you get on last night?,
we said, boy it was cold but we managed all right

And we hit the highway and headed for home,
You told him ‘I need some time on my own,’
And as you ran through my hair how you ran through my head,
So I just closed my eyes, tried to sleep and play dead

So I asked if you loved me, you said
– Sure ‘twas fun, But I was just cold like the night and just tryin’ to keep warm,
Then you smiled like a child first thing on Christmas morn,
You eyes kept me dazed while your words left me torn.

So I said – hey I gotta go fill these traveling shoes,
T’was sure fun to play your game but I still don’t know the rules,
Don’t you know you could have and man that you choose,
But you left my head in a knot and my heart all confused.

So farewell the perfect creature, I’ll not forget you,
So natural in every feature from your head to your shoes,
Should’ve known from the start, it was too good to be true,
When I spent those mystic days with the mystery of you

Mabye I shouldn't have shaken your tree
Should’ve known that your peaches weren’t meant for me,
But then maybe you should’nt have shared them with me,
In the tunnel of love, on the beach by the sea. [comments] => 0 [counter] => 262 [topic] => 2 [informant] => buddhistpunk [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 3 [ratings] => 3 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => LovePoetry )
