Secrets are the lies we tell ourselves
To survive each and every day
I tell you I don’t lie to you
And you tell me that you are unafraid

Secrets are the lies
That never seem to end
I tell you I don’t love you
And you’re nothing more than a friend

Secrets are the lies we tell
To strengthen up our shields
To protect us from illusions lost
That comes from truths revealed

What happens when our lie is more then we can bear
What happens when our sense of normalcy slowly begins to tear
What happens when reality slowly begins to die
Then the truth my dear is nothing more then a lie

That title says it all, doesn't it? I am sure we can all relate to this. Some may choose to act like it doesn't apply to them, but we've all been here. Good poem, with honest emotion.

...the twist at the end has still got me in contortions............................got it...I think...

...perceptions...how a person preceives their world, themselves...all established by our attachment experiences within the first three years of living...for so many, reality has died, what they have come to believe as true, is actually a lie...false...based on information tatooed into their brains by their attachment years caregivers...you are worthless...you are insignificant...you are nothing but a bunch of trouble...compared to everyone else, you're a bunch of nothing...you are a pain in the butt...this is a dangersous world...people cannot be trusted...it's best not to express your feelings...

...there aren't too many who aren't carrying a score or two perceptual lies around with them...make that nobody...

...you triggered my thinking machine...just be glad you can just click me away!!!!!!!! You're too kind...

...thank you for the poem...

Two thumbs up for that third stanza especially...You have talent as a writer. I hope you choose to further develop your skills...I liked this, it had a good flow. The rhyming wasn't consistent, either/or is better than a mixture of freestyle and rhyme...Enjoyable though, still...keep it up.
