For we never know the pain people hide

The edge on which their feelings hinge

The secrets they feel they cannot confide

Their hurt may cause so many to cringe

To know that what you said or did

May have turned a soul to their death

For of this guilt one could never be rid

Unkind words contributed to their last breath

So go with peace and kindness each day

Lend a helping hand or a shoulder to cry on

Saving someone’s life might be the pay

A chain of smiles we just might spawn.

Whatever the outcome is worth the chance

A laugh, a giggle, a grin or even a wink

Ask someone on the street to dance

It may just pull them from the brink

Hey Shortcut,
Congratulations on your fine poem. You are unique in terms of word placement. That works very well to fit into your rhyme scheme. Aside from your ability as a poet, I must say that the sentiment of this poem is very touching. How often have I thought to grab someone on the street, on an elevator listening to muzak or at a dancehall and dance with them? A mighty and noble poem. Brava!
