PREMEDITATED MURDER

New Orleans was situated below
sea level,
Not to protect those people living
there would be cruel!
If they were not protected could
it be called murder?
Yes, indeed, if a solution could
have been created that was better!

Did you know that the British have to
hold back waters from flooding London?

The system above protects London from flooding
their precious population
Have you ever heard of London being flooded
drowning their children?
If you didn't know a solution to stop flooding
wouldn't you ask someone that did?
If the system costs a huge amount of money
what's the value of the life of one little kid?

This is the Dutch's solution to protecting an entire
nation below the level of the sea...
These huge pumps are operated day in and
out to protect the Dutch and yes, it's fancy!
Yes, it takes much maintenance and employs
people to keep it maintained.
They are paid good salaries for these men
are not untrained.

The Italians are defending their city on the sea,
their beautiful Venice.....
Their solution takes large amounts of money
and maintaining them is ceaseless
Their engineers have taken hundreds of hours,
and millions of dollars........
They searched, they researched and came up
with the right answers........

This retaining wall in New Orleans, collapsed in the richest
most powerful and technologically advanced nation on earth!
That's right! Here in the United States of America thousands
drowned and were treated like lives without worth!
Because they could have been saved with a better system
to control flooding, this is known as Murder.
Their leaders neglected them--they will be held
accountable for Blood Quilt......and that's
Premeditated Murder!

In Memory of all those
beautiful people in New Orleans
that should never have died.
We shall ne'r forget
and neither will
their Loving
Creator!

A lot of the tragedies that occur could be prevented or at least mitigated with proper preparation. Unfortunately foresight is very blurred and only hindsight is 20/20. Those levees and dams were engineering marvels at the time they were built. We in this day and age have the attitude "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Unfortunately Katrina was only one of several natural events that could cripple this country and destroy millions if lives. A tsunami on the East coast or an earthquake on the West would make New Orleans pale in comparison.

Last night on West Wing, there was a live debate.. and a lot of the things that were said parelled what goes on when anything in this gov't costs $$. It was seen then and by your wonderful poem that life is taken very lightly here. You can't tell me we don't have wonderful engineers that can do a better job ... they just don't want too. Thanks for the great poem.

Couldnt agree with you more.! My dad has some friends, which lived in New Orleans, and have NO clue, if they made it out or not.! I had a friend near, and finally found out she made it, yet............many, many ppl are here in Dallas, Texas, and still have NO place to go, and probably wont for ALONG time.! Some that work near my place of employment, say Its not worth the effort, and money....to try and rebuild.! I do pray for them all the time.because WE NEVER know when it could be US>! Thanks for the beautiful and heart wrenching write.! May all the prayers be with all.!

Money versus lives Sue. Makes me so angry that so much money is wasted on the best hotels the best food..From our money for the ones in power. Thought they wanted to save money not squander it. They are the biggest hypocrites ever. They may be good at talking but action is what is required. Your write says so very much and the pictures and research that went in to writing this poem is wonderful.
Lets hope they resolve this problem before more innocent lives are lost.

Deeply touching write

Love Angelxx

Great research mom but u wouldn't catch me living below sea level in the first place. i've been to New Orleans just passing thru. To me it seems that living below sea level would just be tempting fate or mother nature. That's just my thoughts on the subject.
luv, huggs,
yobrat,
