Array ( [sid] => 109062 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => When the Earth Shook [time] => 2005-11-04 12:12:58 [hometext] => I wrote this poem when i heard about the earthquake in pakistan in the news.Recently there have been a lot of natural calamities throughout the world. And i feel sad when i see the reports about them. [bodytext] => I woke up in the morning
hearing my mother singing
Went to the kitchen to have my breakfast
after morning prayers food was served at last
I ate up all the food in a hurry
Roti, dal, chutney and curry
Kissed my mother good bye on the way
to the ground to play all day
We were having fun playing cricket
and right when Azim took the wicket
We all heard a rumbling noise like thunder
and the earth shook and I looked with wonder
as the nearby buildings collapsed to the ground
and then for a moment there was no sound
Even the birds in the trees stopped singing
and we all stood there staring
at the rubble left of the city
with fear sorrow and pity
Then there was an uproar of noises
We ran towards the city yearning for familiar voices
I ran as fast as I could
Towards where my house stood
I found it had collapsed too
I ran round the rubble though I knew
that I would never hear my mother again
I stood looking at the chaos in vain
I looked at the people passing by
They all shared the same emotion in their eye
Disbelief, sorrow, a feeling of loss and pain
But we all knew that our lives won't be the same again.
