To morning sun
And tune of bee and dragonfly

It opens its petals to the rays
Of golden liquid life
The flower embraces sloth and indulgence

Among the ground the shadows seep
In envy of the proud
Who bare their faces to the sun without
The need for self-doubt.

The weeds in darkness plot and plan
Away from beauteous eyes
In jealousy they rot and wither
For want of better life

The flower feels their icy cold clench
Along the roots that bind
It tries to shriek in shock agonising
Yet blind to all but glare and light

The weed creeps up and higher
Away from dank depths of despair
Trying to bring the flower low
It twists thorns and browns its leaves

In sullen envious attempts
Slowly the flower dies
And is it glimpses it’s murderous foe it sees
It can’t live when beauty is dead.

Oh very good piece here, very good. Loved the reference to all in the garden...and the outcome at the end. Yes, envy of others will only cause pain when all is said and done. Glad I stopped in to read...gonna go and check out the next one. Peace, Laura
