the illusions and mischief wondering threw the graves
spirits and darkness this is there fright
to dress up like demons tormenting the night

seance and black magic and the evil it shows
scaring little children as the phantom flows
grim faced carvings lighting the way
to the house where the monsters quietly lay

candy and costumes they wernt for me
i liked to show the demon in me
from tormenting the neighbours
or making kids cry

Halloween night is much different these days, and most people celebrate it long before it happens:> I wore the mask, steamed my face, jack-a-lantern, a real pumpkin with a candle in it, I held onto it tight, our bags were grocery bags, we designed a scary image on front of our sacks where our candy would be placed, we used gunny sacks to make our outfits out of:> our parents took turns taking us around on foot, door to door, one parent stayed home to treat the trickers. Now much of it is in a mall, one hour for kids, or libraries, reading, games, just be careful on that night, especially with the candy, have fun all, and happy halloween, be a good night to have a family get together:> You poem is wonderful, nice memories of one scary night, a child scares easily, so adults be kind lol:> we made jack benny pies next day out of our burning pumpkins, sort of had that smoky bbq taste, but still good, my mother found a recipe, a jack benny pie, is simply pumpkin pudding stuck into a flaky crust. Its creamy and delicious:>

I like this-
I too was a monster-
Yet this came at a later time in my life-
Not a witches brew but the devils own blood (drinking addiction)...
