Its rather long, but the ending brings it all together I think. I must warn you however that this poem could be very triggering. * [bodytext] => Discarded and forgotten
Left to weep alone (once again)
I cut myself open
With little thought or regard
Just driven by the ache
That festers deep inside

I resurrect my exacto knife
To write upon me the word
That torments my existence
And choose my thigh
(Unscarred, until tonight)
I take a breath to hold back the tears
That seek to cloud my reason

With an (un)steady hand
I carve a large "S"
The blood that is spilled
And drips down my thigh
Reminds me of...
Nothing

Kissing the blade

An "A" comes next
I feel the pain acutely now
It begins to dull
The distress that rapes my mind
Silent tears spring forth
I know not the reason why
Only that I must continue on

Feeding the shame

A "V" is the next letter,
But this V is not for Victory
Because only defeat reigns tonight

Killing the pain

Another "A" I carve
I know these scars
Will not bring freedom
For I will remain chained
To the guilt that led
Me to this dark place

I'm dying within.

Two "N's" follow quickly
My wounds scream at me,
But I refuse to listen
With determination and strength
I cut in the last letter, an "A"
Slowly, with clenched teeth,
To savour every ounce of pain

Kissing the blade
Feeding the shame
Killing the pain
And dying within.

My thigh is a bloodied mess
(My tears will clean the knife)
I wipe away the blood with shaking hands
And smile, sadly, at the word
That screams at me
Adorned across my thigh

S-A-V-A-N-N-A

I wept for you,
Now I bleed for you

And this is what you have given me
Nothing but a scarred, shattered soul
And I am left to ponder
Whether love truly exists

Kissing the blade
Feeding the shame
Killing the pain
And dying within.

Joel, this is just WOW. I've never seen you write like this before. This just left me speechless after reading it all.

Powerful emotions are always hard to put into words so you've done brilliantly here.

Jane~

Beautiful poem shows a lot of pain. Better released then kept within. I love all your poetry and this one included. Keep writing and keep your head up all heals with time.

Triggering... indeed.

My eyes are burning like furnaces, and I try so desperately to push the tears back.... My throat is closing up, my heart is swelling with the same agony that you have so eloquently expressed here... Cheri, it pains me to see you like this... I wish I could take your burdens off of your shoulders, if only for a mere moment, and let you bathe in oceans of joy instead of sorrow... I do hope that things are getting better, albeit excruciatingly slow or average speed... A heart-wrenchingly vivid piece of poetic perfection, my dear Joel. Could my arms reach these wretched miles, I'd embrace you without a moments hesitation, :-). You never fail to impress, Joel. You have endless talent and such spirit in your words, even when you feel you are merely illusion. All my love and blessings, mon ami. May your heart heal and never lose faith in love/hope, :D. Always,

Your ever-inspired and dear friend,

~*Stephy*~ (((MASSIVE HUGS!!)))
