So what's my purpose in this fam'ly?
I and my sister were born different - you know
Neither of us will accomplish much as we grow
We're both classified with Bollinger Syndrome
We don't use the toilet - our hair Mom will comb
We cannot hear a word that you say
We grow very slowly - that's just our way
We cannot sing or speak a single word
But we do cry, feel and a giggle is heard.
Mentally we may not be ahead of the others
But Jesus loves us and we love our Mother!
We may be handicapped and that much is true
But listen to the things that we can teach you
Oh yes, we are deaf, but our deafness does pay
No angry or mean words will cause us to stray
The things we can't learn may be necessary here
But when eternity comes - we've nothing to fear
Our height may not be very tall at all
But our backs don't hurt to pick up a ball
Our smiles can make a person's heart melt
Our tears show you, that pain can be felt
Our minds do not recognize all that is bad
But when there is love our hearts are made glad
We never complain about all that's 'unfair'
Jesus taught us to love and that we can share
SO I guess that mades us very important, too
Jesus' purpose for us is to be here and love you. A wonderful write that cannot fail to make even the most hardened heart melt.
Thoroughly enjoyed reading it from start to finish.

my youngest son has 4 children, 2 older boys and twins, boy and girl. The oldest boy and the youngest twin boy are autistic. They learn really fast, they are not real social, and may never be able to live alone. It bothered me at first when I would go visit them, or they come to grandma, and I had to introduce myself to them each time, they forgot who I was. Then one day, I went to their house, and as usual, I always said hello to them, I could not reach out to touch them, it would scare them, I could not touch their bodies, for it was so painful, so I just smiled and said, grandma loves you. I cried hard and screamed when my both boys said, Grandma. I thought they would never learn who I was. And as they called me grandma, they asked me this question... they said, grandma, do you have Jesus in your heart? Your poem is very moving to me.. I do understand what the word handi-capped means..

These children, teens, are very connected with nature, life, slow, but connected, and Jesus takes care of them, some die at a very young age, social implications... I have a handi-capp too, for I love the world, everyone in it, and Jesus. I am not always excepted, but I still love. My grandchildrens doctors says, to a certain extent we all have certain disorders about us, not one of us is normal so to speak, we are all handicapped in one way or another.. social being is important. Linda, thank you for sharing this poem, and It will educate a lot of people, who has never heard of Bollinger syndrome, and or, autism. So, with that, you asked the question, are they normal, will they be able to live normally, and if so, what is normal. Love has everything to do with everything.

Oh Lin what a heart touching write.
I cried and prayed that any child is a gift from God. They chose ur daughter because they knew that she will love them from her heart.
May God always shower his blessings over u and ur family.
*hugs*
Sue

Only a person who has a complete understanding of love could have wrote this.
God has a purpose for every living soul on this earth, value is not weighted on capacity.

Excellent write my friend, very moving.

this is so true and they have missed nothing in their limited life. they have experienced love and friendship, fun and games, and share their love wherever they go. many people would have given these precious gifts up, that would be a tragic loss for them. i concider my angels to be my gift, my rock my twins. i wouldnt have them anyother way. thank you linmom for understanding and loving me
