I shall watch you in the dawn
come slowly awake
slightly bemused by it all
your after love face
terror gone
hunger slaked
a young girl again
naked and new
that night having lain
not merely with a lover
but with love.

We can speak clear words
in the calm after love
catch new words
in the shape of each shadow.
Not for us the man-woman prison
of the normal and healthy
the normal and selfish
the slow gnawing of years
the slow bite of cancerous fears
shredding bruised minds..

the scourge of routine
scourge of security
a ceremony of love
without celebration
rounding our days to a covenant.

Love is not bound,
save by freedom
while love's final word
remains unuttered.
Even we in our slight wisdom know this.

I shall watch you in the dawn
tumble from sleep
the mist gone
and I content
with the knowledge of you on earth.

I like this. I think love is more of the actions than feelings and inaction sometimes proves love more than action does.

"When I was a child I spoke like a child. When i became a man I put childish things away" Paul the apostle speaking about love.

Now this is the way a realationship should be, free without pain.. and I must say.. the joys, the thrills of live, thereafter, the morning after, brings on more life.. and always more to live until the next moment one takes a breath... and that breath is the ultimate savior of the day.. oh my... there is a God on board.. the one who made it all possible that whatever we do in grace is going to be there the morning after... the saving grace.. of time.. to explore all that we are we forever until ever is eternally never ever forever never gone..

This was sweet all the way, I don’t think anyone can truly define love, only express how it affects them, and that you did wonderfully here….

I shall watch you in the dawn
come slowly awake
slightly bemused by it all
your after love face

“After love face”…seems like we all have seen it…but what is it?.......got me thinking…..

nice work as always

There is real beauty shining from this piece of work, true poetry written of what is definitely true life-poetry. A refreshing, encouraging and excellent piece of work, and one I shall probably return to.

Well done!

Andrew

This was awesome, in the highest sense of the word. You speak of love as it should be, and with great eloquence.
Take care, great poet.

That's a beautiful ending Billy, and befitting for such a wonderful piece of poetry. Love this...
