Fathers should be revered, even dead ones are,
As should Mothers, who’s great legacy is her love.
Unfortunately this is not always the case in life!

Looking around you can see many happy families,
Then look over in the shadows and another picture forms.
You make out the figure of a mere child lying there
Surrounded by their comforters, the needles and beer bottles.

Unfortunately people rarely stop, but to stare in pity.
They choose to ignore the facts; they only remember their childhood.
When these children wake, they wake in the dark cold of night;
Without someone to look up to they turn back to their deadly comforters!

As you look away to forget this sight, as many others have,
You find another child sitting under a tree, pen and paper in hand.
“That is much better”, you think, “back to normality”;
Until you see the scars on their wrists, you choose to ignore.

You have fooled yourself into believing three things.
Firstly, that the children you saw in the shadows do not exist;
Secondly, that those scars you saw on the wrists do not exist;
Finally, that all the happy families are the truth, they do exist!

Look at yourself and ask yourself what group you are in;
You can see each of the three groups, so you are part of another.
The only group that is able to see the truth, even if you ignore it.
All the others are blind to each other, consumed by themselves.

Then look over at me, and tell me what group I fit into,
I haven’t got the happy family, the scars on my wrists, or the deadly comforter,
I have never known a father; I’ve only ever known a mere man,
A man who has never done anything but look down on me!
