Voices of reality
They whisper in the night...

I'd rather be a dreamer
I'd rather that I might
Think more of stars and heavens
And less of hate and fear
I'd rather be a dreamer
I'd rather I didn't hear

Voices of reality
Tell secrets in my head...

I'd rather be a dreamer
I'd rather I be dead
Than face a life of boredom
Just keeping status que
I'd rather be a dreamer
I'd rather I didn't know

Voices of reality
Crescendo on the rise...

I can't hold out forever
I can't hide weary eyes
Pretending there is silence
When all I hear are screams...

So desperate the dreamer
Who's running out of dreams

OMG Larry. This was so moving. Wow. (sorry, am out of
adjectives....so speechles am I at the brilliance
of this write). Nazzy was right. You ARE a master!
I wish I could pull a better description of what it is you
have me feeling here, but truly, I am at a loss....
I found the last line heartbreaking. You almost
have me teary eyed. Not an easy task, Larry.

Beautiful piece from a beautiful soul.

*hugs*
~Breezy

A nicely written but unsettling piece, for sure, and reality does have a way of deflating imaginings. But just when you think the well is dry..........

I'll go one step further than Breezy, I suppose... you did get me teary eyed. I'm... a bit "off balance" (I suppose that's as good a way to put it as any) tonight and this... hit hard. You'll have to forgive me this once, Larry - as all I can manage is something incredibly inadequate like "Excellent work, Larry".

Wow, Larry. This poem has it, it has it indeed. It's gripping and sad, oh-so-human and relatable.

The style is also stellar. You've made appropriate use of white space, allowing plenty for the words to sink in as it is read. I'm always one for that.

Here's to hoping the dreamer finds a horn of the Mead of Life foaming in his hand. Excellent work.

When first attempt at creating pleasant reality fail, most faint hearted people want to run away from it, its called escapism. Yes its true, it would be so much nicer to live in dreams, well if we can create better dreams we can create better reality too, sometimes it just takes a bit more effort than creating a dream, hell, didn't they send someone on moon? Try harder on next attempts, till you get everything right.

Here here Larry. To be a dreamer takes you to many beautiful places castles in the air sandy beaches. You can travel wherever the heart takes you in your dreams. Keep hold of them Larry for dreams can come true.

Beautiful bravo Mr dreamer whos words are as precious as the rose.

Love Angelxxx

I know not the source of this, the causality of your write. But from whatever it cometh I did find this write to be a relatable idea at least or a feeling heartfelt at most.

"So desperate the dreamer
who's running out of dreams".

Desperate indeed dear sir...so desperate indeed. I too can feel the indications pointed herein in. Of a dreamer laid bare to the touch of reality. I had many dreams ...many many dreams...but they are drowned now by the tide of reality. You have so eloquently here depicted the desperation of a dreamer buffeted by reality and the inklings of the dreams running as we are forced to awaken. I always thought that dreams are an unimpeachable fortress but they fall nonetheless. Reality be damned! but such is the way of life. I only wish that the magic of dreams can somehow rub out the harshest of reality and like Martin Luther King stand upon a pedestal to declare that "I have a dream", and mayhaps dreams can really bring about the demurring of hate and fear. But then again I might be dreaming here and tomorrow I too must keep the status quo and live the boredom amongst the screams. Ramblings I am afraid...in the loliness of the night..sleepless rambling that is.

I had to come back, Larry. My first comment here was soooo entirely inadequate --- you "got me", I'm afraid, with those last two lines and was essentially incapable of saying anything worthwhile just then.

You're speaking a language here that I am altogether too familiar with. By concept alone, this piece is unbelievably moving. But... for anyone that has considered the horrible possibility of 'never', it is utterly heartwrenching. Those last two lines... heavens, they're so incredibly potent. To live without dreams is to live, perhaps, the most painful sort of existence. Anyone that has done as much (even for a instant) would feel the sting of those words.

May you, Larry (and anyone that knows the truth of these words) always, always know that the desperation is temporary.... for a poet, my friend, cannot help but to find a way to dream again. All we really need to do (and sometimes, all we can do) is to simply keep moving forward and eventually we'll run head long into a dream.

Wishing you not only dreams, but the joy of living them as well,
~Snem

Wonderful poem Larry written with a
sadness that most can relate to, but few can
put into words. I just loved this... don't have
much to say other than that.

ahhh as of late I feel more than just the words here.
Very well penned, nice flow and rhythmn too.
But most of all is the feel of the content, especially for those of us that can relate.
Wishing fresh dreams for you my friend....and a quieter reality as well.

A msn after my own heart. I hate horror and gore much prefare fairytales and dreams. it is a lovely place to be. We are the lucky ones who can travel through our imaginations to beautiful far away castles in the sky. We can go wherever we like and smile.

Beautiful Larry as always many roses for you from me. Kisses

Love Angelxx
