I walk down the road,
Alone, apart,
Stared at, pointed out,
No one cares,
I just walk on and sigh,
I’m exhausted at the end of the road,
I don’t want to take another step,
As I walk past buildings I’ve never seen,
I’m afraid of myself, afraid of what I see,
And just as I’m about to collapse,
Someone catches my arm,
And picks me back up,
Another pulls my other arm,
They help me walk again,
They raise my head and let me see,
I don’t know who they are,
Or why they’re helping me,
They say they’re like me,
They say they know how I feel,
They say we can help each other,
Like a very strange family.
I look into their faces,
It seems to be my reflection,
I see my pain and hurt,
Staring right back at me,
Their lives haven’t been fun either,
So we all join together.
A new friendship,
Is created in pain,
Nothing to lose, everything to gain,
As I look around again,
The world seems a bit brighter now,
Im not alone anymore,
I walk with friends,
Who accept me as I am,
They don’t try to change me,
They don’t question my red stripes,
Because they have them too,
We all just talk together,
Like one very messed-up family.
