Mementos

Contributed by jackman on Thursday, 29th September 2005 @ 01:24:34 PM in AEST
Topic: Nostalgic

most are shiny
they are drawn to my eyes
and refract a hundred million times
in the pinprick black holes
i examine them
some are dulled
but still a little bit magic
i can hear them with my ears
they talk with secret words
beyond the worlds of sound
they smell nice
one of those smells which
takes you back years
to that happy place
warm
smiling
gives you that perverse nostalgia
makes you wish that now was then
the feel is the strangest of all though
rough hewn yet slippy
like sandpaper doused in icing
feels as pretty as they look

most are shiny
pupils refocus
there is conspiracy afoot
they are hiding things
secrets
lots of secrets
from days long gone
that only they remember
the little details
that you chose to ignore....

they were good days
it's nice to remember sometimes
close the box
put them away
you'll look again
some other day

Yes I remember when you find that little thing that makes you smell, feel, and live the moment when you first had it in your hand. Thanks your poem helped me remember.

I love the contrast in the poem between the warm and happy feelings of old memories against the undercurrent of something a little darker of the secrets and perversion alluded to.
