Daylight escapes their clutches
But Night never fares as well
Beneath a moon too far to reach
Their powers seem to swell
They creep into the darkness
Suck the air out of a dream
They claw and bite and sting and pull
These demons in between

And I, their favorite victim
Mute with fear I cannot name
Exposed there in bed each night
As they set the room aflame
I cower in the corner
Shut my eyes to what I’ve seen
They laugh and scream and squeal delight
The demons in between

This game we play each evening
With a skill that’s been refined
Through relentless repetition
Unwanted though each time
But this night, something changes
The fear lessened, it would seem
They wince and shrink and fade a bit
Those demons in between

For the first time I have seen
Through the flames' amber glow
In the mirror’s strange reflection
The truth at last is shown
Sound asleep in bed am I
Dancing in the fire of dreams
Each breath so deep that I push out

SNM, I sorely missed your poetry!! And I'm glad to have read
this tongiht. It is outstanding!! You have such an amazing,
imaginative talent! I am never disappointed when I visit
your pages. Something I am definitely going to make time to do....
And I have no shame in pilfering one of your made up words....
super-duper-fantabulous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well now! This is wonderfully written work, and vivid. The meaning behind it is even better - it is truly amazing, the meanings we poets are given sometimes, I think. And almost frightening.

Well done!

Andrew

Snemmy, I've missed you.

Hmmm, I do adore that first stanza, it's the best part of the poem... but I don't think it would have been complete if you hadn't carried it on.

I LOVE this. It's so...you... but like something has snapped, has been released. It makes it all the more real.

Fantastic write, my friend,
It's good to see you writing again.

*hugs*

I love the repetitive line..
"demons in between"

the well marshalled flow of that line,
coupled with the words..

"These..The...Those" ...and .."My"
..and in that order of stanzas,
made for a most enjoyable
and rythmic flow..

Think this would make a ..Bllboard song-

Sincerely,

Billy

The first stanza didn't know what it was thinking. Good job with not listening to it. I loved it, though.
Congratulations on a poem well written.
Take care.

Bravo Snemm, what a write, i loved it, it seemed to create the mood that it longed for, and in the same notion leave a bit of wanting more...hmm very good wording also.

Absolutely brilliant!!! Your words and imagery are absolute magic! I love the way you (or the person) fought off their demons!!!

I applaud thee.....seriously applauding.
