Take the mask off for me so she can be revealed
She wants to be inspired
She wants to be free
Take the mask off so she can remember that feeling once again, so that feeling doesn’t come back again, so that feeling doesn’t keep replaying in her head.
She’s tired of hiding behind it
She’s tired of hiding behind someone she’s not
Continuing to deny that love doesn’t exist behind her reveling eyes.
She knows you know that laugh on the train you share lasts a little too long, a little too loud.
She’s growing weary from the constant thought of unrequited love.
Yet, she refuses to accept the truth until you take off the mask.
Please take it off.
It hurts every time the door shuts behind and
She knows your eyes do not feel what is going on in her mind.
You’re so far away.
Lost in some other love that once existed.
Leaving me to watch as those train doors close once again, as she takes a breath to speak a word, but it is too late every time.
She sheds a tear but you can’t see
The mask is on too tight, it’s on so tight –stays still yet another day; covers the truth, masking what she has to say.
Veiling what she has to offer and who she really is, refusing to show
So scared he will never really know what lies behind this resented mask
So she takes another deep breath, yet another day of untruthful laughter and lying eyes.

This is a great write. By the way, no one can take that mask off but you. This is a very courageous poem you have written. Thanks

Muy eleoquent. I honestly believe that masks are what make life so difficult sometimes.

I normally find a more clean-cut looking format more pleasing to the eye, but I don't mind it so much here...This seems like a very in the moment, emotional spill. Filled with honesty and angst. I understand the mask syndrome all too well myself : )
Hope you find that love, and welcome to YPDC!
