Now I'm paying for what I did.
I was a monster who couldn't think.
All I cared about was having another drink.

Drinking would always make me get mean.
Instead of abusing my kids, I should've made their lives serene.
My wife tried to stop me but she never could.
When she finally got some help, I lost my family for good.

I'm haunted by the tears that came to my kids eyes.
I must be a person who they really despise.
Now I'm crying because of the sorrow I feel for the things I've done.
I was disgraceful to my daughter and son.

The guilt is eating me up and I'm falling apart.
After years of drinking, I've wore out my heart.
I have less than six months to live.
Before I die, I'm going to beg my children to forgive. This poem is a great lesson. It tells all about drug abuse and physical and mental abuse.. by the time most people who figure out that drugs in any form will set you backwards.. you think your going forward, but you are not.. that is the problem with drugs.. you never get ahead.. and drugs age you, soon they do not give you that powerful feeling, tears you down.. and you feel ashamed, lonely.. I pray for all people.. ones who feel they need drugs to find power, and I pray for those victims.. the ones who become lonely around the lonely.. drugs shut you down, and shut others out, and others feel lonely being around those who are users.. medication is ok, used under doctors advice.. but taking drugs to try to find power and strength is not a way to go.. you will definately lose in the end, not just your self, but your family and friends.. Lord, I pray that you somehow can enter into those hearts to help them save themselves.. and help save them too Lord.. hugs.. raquel leah... wise poem.. thank you for the focus on a much needed problem to not just understand, but in hopes this poem can either heal.. and or help to show the damages that taking drugs just to feel power, thinking you feel ok now, and then later on.. lost souls. raquel leah
