I've been really busy with college work lately, and I haven't gotten to write much poetry. The idea for this poem came to me after looking at one of my uncle's paintings. Enjoy!* [bodytext] => For many autumns
I have sat on this bench,
under this tree,
and watched as its leaves turned from green,
to yellow,
to orange,
to every color in the spectrum.

It is here that I think of you,
and all the memories we made.
Of past autumns, winters,
springs, and summers,
where we'd sit under this tree for hours.

We'd go to the local high school football games,
and munch on popcorn, as the team won.
We'd sit under the blanket,
as the season slowly changed.
And the cool crisp air,
became colder and colder.

As I sit here, something starts to happen.
I realize, I've watched
two months fall off the calender,
and it is now November.
And the last leaves are falling off the tree.

With each passing leaf,
the memory fades.
I can see my breath now.
Don't worry though,
I'll see you next fall.
And remember all the happy times again.

It's becoming harder to remember, now.
And as my memory of you fades into darkness,
I watch...

As
the
last
leaf

falls...

See you next September...

Signed, with love,

A beautiful poem, I loved it, I liked how you compared the leaves to changing colors, and knowing that you would see them again so soon. SLipSiX.

Excellent. I especially loved the way your chose to present your ending. It's nice when you live in a place with changing season. Job well done.

Loende

This was really fun to read, makes me like Fall better (autumn sounds more neat). However, I still am a staunch Winter supporter!

I didn't like the paragraph-phrase:

It is here that I think of you,
and all the memories we made.
Of past autumns, winters,
springs, and summers,
where we'd sit under this tree for hours.

because it's the only mention in the whole shebang about other seasons, and everything else is focused on Autumn. Sure, you're telling us this has history, but the point you made in the rest of it was that Autumn is the sweet end.

I LOVED THE ENDING!!! You sign it, and then beautifully refer to yourself as Your Autumn Memory. Obviously, it doesn't help you for me to repeat your lines (you already know them!). But it's so poetic. Autumn being the season for memory makes sense (besides the fact that your memory takes place in the fall), because it's such a colourful and bold time. If I could lable the season's feelings, I'd say Spring Frolic, Summer Heat, Autumn Memory, and Winter Snooze. Autumn Memory is my favorite of those. Finally, the fact that it's the reader's Autumn Memory gives the letter a personal touch, or a modesty of self -- these memories used to belong to me, but I'll bequeth them to you, even though they will then become faded for me.

So, do you have 50 gazillion girlfriends dreaming about you every night in college yet?

Signed, with friendly affection,
--Your Childhood Tormentor/Friend

P.S. You have inspired me to finish my homework, and maybe I can finish the last few lines of my Wanderlust poem (finally) and post it!!!
