And tables where one eats.
I can rest and eat in these
Yet not quite feel at home.
Give me fields of peanuts
And acres where cotton grows.
We値l pass by catfish farms
And Kudzued woods
On the way to my true home.
Though born elsewhere,
My heart lives in Alabama.

No harsh words
Can tear it from my soul.
There grows my family tree.
Love I have felt no where else
Than where the war eagles fly
And the crimson tide rolls,
Over rich ruby clay.

I dream at night of grits and peas
With cornbread and with rice.
Ya値l keep the screen door open
And the rockers on the porch.
You be sure, I値l be back soon.
To love another humid day.

Lovely!! Absolutely! Bless you for writing this, and prayers to all in Alabama and elsewhere affected by Katrina's wrath. What a splendid nostalgic poem!

very impressive. this is one of the few poems about my state that im impressed with particularly because of the ending. in history classes we focus a bit more on alabama and the south, than say we would if we were in another region, and i am surprised at all that my state has done for this country, and its sad that without classes i probably would have never known of it. i have yet to develop any liking towards those southern foods though, =]
