Swept away, as if in a dream
I find myself naked and alone
Through a dark tunnel I see a wondrous light
beckoning to me

As I walk I hear voices of confusion
Sounds of wailing and pleas for help
I am terrified now straight to my bones
Can they not see the light that is shone?

I arrive at a huge lighted archway
Brightness obstructs my view of what awaits me beyond
Doubt feels my entire being now
Do I dare step inside

With one deep breath I take that step
In an instant I feel as if I have travelled a million miles
I stand befuddled waiting for my senses to return
and I open my eyes

The most magnificent room ever imagined is where I stood
A floor of gold and marble that only could have been laid by the most master of craftsman
Columns reach up and seem to hold up the very sky
Rows and rows of candles are burning bright as a new born stars

A group of people lie ahead
I fear to approach
So I sneak behind these massive columns
Wishing to gain some insight as to where I am

I see a throne
A power figure sits upon the throne but a bright glow conceals his face
I can feel his very presence in the room
I am in awe of his very being

A man approaches wearing an expensive suit
His watch is gold and he has many other great things
He removes his wallet overflowing with money
The great figure on the throne responds with “No, that is not what I am looking for”

A beautiful woman approaches wearing provocative clothing
An entourage follows with cameras clicking
She starts to dance and sings a very impressive song
But the great figure responds with “No, that is not what I am looking for”

A man in uniform decorated with many medals approaches now
The man draws his sword and lays it at the foot of the throne
With a bark of his order two men begin to fight to the death
The great figure responds “No, that is not what I am looking for”

Yet another man approaches wearing thick glasses and a long white coat
His arms filled with books and scrolls
He scratches out theory and equations feverishly onto a large board
Still the great figures says “No, that is not what I am looking for”

Great terror fills me as I hear a great voice reverberate through my entire body
You there hiding among the pillars
Come out and answer this question
What is the greatest thing you can give unto me?

Filled with embarrassment I realize I have nothing
I am sorry my lord I have nothing
I stand before you as the day I was born
All I have is myself, my faith and my honor to offer you

The great figure says “Yes, that is exactly what I am looking for” [comments] => 6 [counter] => 232 [topic] => 11 [informant] => poisonpen00ad [notes] => |||||||Incorrect spelling has been corrected, as requested. ---Moderator_14||||||| [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 23 [ratings] => 5 [editpoem] => 0 [associated] => [topicname] => ChristianPoetry )

Brilliant! It made me see religous poetry in a whole new light. It's inspirational without being preachy.

Excellent!

But I believe the question will be "What did you do for the least of my brethern".

And many will be surprised by what the REAL answer is.
