Hurricane! - It’s category Five!
With catastrophic damage to some State
Three States,- with people trying to survive,
Who can the consequences calculate?

The storm is just too big,- the residents
Of Louisiana, Mississippi flee,
And Alabama’s towns resilient
Are open preys now to calamity.

Stop penning poets pray of history,
And favored themes, or lovie -lovie‘s woe,
Or any other triviality,
Cleopatra, dear Mickey Mouse, John Doe.

Path of destruction, everything wiped out,
New Orleans under water many feet
Those fleeing may escape dread Kathryn’s knout,
But powerless will stay the power grid.

Who‘ll pen of wrinkles and excessive fat,
In times of fellow man‘s calamity?
While countries, parishes are under threat
To be wiped out in a catastrophe.

Sing devastation,- pen of Hurricane!
Your fellow man must flee, evacuate,
Forbid to sing of triviality,
And songs that now on nervous systems grate.

Lo! Human suffering will be incredible
Declare some county spokesmen on TV,
Destroyed transformers make help void and nil,
State after State declares emergency.

Oh New Orleans!- first time in history!
Your fate fair French town hangs now on a thread,
A victim of Kathryn’s ferocity
How many numbers will count lost or dead?.

Will the big bowl be filled, as levees break
And raging surges kick the dykes around?
While debris fly and structures sway and shake.
And pumps are failing, or are failure bound?.

And Tourists and the poor without a home,
Nor means at all where with to flee elsewhere
Go shelter seeking to the Super Dome,
Their misery with others more to share.

The water levies are inadequate,
Refineries submerged would then release
Supplies of waters that contaminate,
And compromise with foul and oozing grease.

Submerged will be the spots familiar,
The hapless throngs, the pauper refugee,
And people all that have not got a car
Will bear the brunt of the calamity.

The wind is tropical, and dread and fear
Fills all the hapless victims of Kathryn,
Whose deadly breath and gusts keep drawing near
To bury all and swipe the sea strands clean.

It’s vain to sing of strange theologies,
And speculate of what might be or not,
Much better t’is to face realities,
And pray for suffering fellow men to God!

A monstrous Hurricane Katrina barreled toward New Orleans on Sunday with 160-mph wind and a threat of a 28-foot storm surge. I have lived in NOLA which is a city 10ft below sea level to start with. This will devastate a city that on a normal day has to pump water out on a daily basis. This will be misery and death for many and devastation to the city for months to come. For all who pray, please do. For those of you who do not please just cross your fingers that as few as possible will die when it hits in the morning. God bless them all. Rita

Oh yes, Katrina is nasty.
I only live one state away from Louisanna. We do need more rain.
I would never live in a town that's lower than sea level or on a Coast line either. Course that's just me.
My long time friend lives in florida. He and I were talking on the phone about the hurricanes. I told him I'd just move and let the ocean have the place.
Very good write my friend.
God have mercy on all. I do hop[e they get um out of there before it's too late.
Good work my friend but here name is Katrina.
luv, huggs,
emy

Spectafular timing and yes much history!
One storm right after another, what is happening here. The Bible speaks of things occuring one right after another in the last days of this system of things. Could all this be just the beginning of the end and then the Great Tribulation and Armaggedon? Only time will tell, but the poor people are suffering, directly your prayers for them to survive would only be right.
Marvelous write and as always wonderful collection to add to you poems of History.
Loved the appropriate Music also!
Warm lo you

Terrible tragedy.

You are a very good anchor woman Elizabeth, as well as a good writer, and your poems and stories are very educational and enlighten us all. Copy and paste these web site addresses so you can view. Thank you.

Every one must pray. Thank you for posting, and helping all to be aware of what is occuring in and around the world.

Maybe this site is not what you want to hear when these things in nature happens, but its good reading and praying with God in times of need.

http://www.rainshowers.com/

I live in Oregon. It was Albany Oregon, where I lived at the time. At age 11, I was working in the library, 6th grade. I did not want to go home early, but I had too. I loved working in the library around books. I could barely open up the front door of the school in order to get out. Everyone else had gone home but a couple teachers and a librarian. I was on my own, for they were so scared themselves and really didn't think the wind was that bad, so did not worry about me.

It was the day of Columbis day storm on October 12, 1962. http://www.wavecrestdiscoveries.com/articles/columbus_day_storm.htm

A terrible storm that brought floods and ruined everything, pictures and all in our basement.. the water got in the trunk where we kept pictures and documents and other treasures. As I was walking home, I could barely keep my feet on the sidewalk, and I was only about 55 lbs then, a very lean girl. I could not hear anything except for the strong winds. I kept my face down because I could hardly breathe, the wind forcing itself into my nostrils. Finally God had me to look up, and see my parents and my oldest brother come for me, they were walking, could not drive the car in the strong wind. As I looked up, I saw them motioning me to stop walking. At first I did not understand what their hand signals meant. Again, God spoke to me and I stopped walking. A few inches from my feet came down a big tree and if I did not stop walking, I would not be here typing this comment, for I would have been killed.

Thank you for this write full of wisdom. The Lord is with all. Keep praying, trust. Never stop trusting, believing, do not lose faith, so the Lord can do His work. When we lose our faith, that is when things cannot be properly taken care of.

Huge calamity, huge poem,
every word pounded into my reading forehead
the reality,
but can people handle it? believe it? marry it?
I got doubts.
I don't believe i write trivial poems, but i will self check,
i owe you and this thoughtful storm warning poem that much
