I’ve lost my heart; I’ve lost my soul,
but most of all I’ve lost control.
No longer can life be enjoyed,
for inside lies a deep, dark void.

I’ve lost my purpose, I have no dreams;
I’m completely empty inside it seems.
When there’s no vision there’s nothing to see
I have become my own enemy.

Inside is just an empty shell
filled with pain, filled with hell.
This pain inside you can’t console,
as depression has finally taken its toll.

Outside is nothing but burning pain,
with muscles that cramp and tears that stain.
My bones are brittle, I’m no longer whole,
this disease has taken on its new role.

All of the things I loved to do,
are bitter memories that I spew.
I can’t even do things like go outside
unless the wind is as dead as I.

Life as I knew it has long been gone,
hopelessness has made me withdrawn.
I’m wasting my time sitting here talking
when all I am is a dead man walking.

Very sad but if I had to rely on physical strength I would have given up long ago.
It's the inner peace that gets me thru. I too am disabled but as long as I have my writing and computor then I'm happy. I've faced death many times in my life but still I choose life. As long as there's writing to do then God keeps me here as writing is my life. I've had many miracles such as the first part of this year I flatlined in the ambulence on the way to the hospital but a very caring, beleiving ambulence attendent and a driver touched god's throne for me and now I'm healther than I've been in years.
We can't put our confidence in self but it's God that we should lean on.
Hang tuff friend and if ya need to rattle then pm me.
I'll put u in my prayers.
huggs, faith, hope, joy, peace,
emy

John, I can do nothing that will ease your pain but maybe through poetry and friends you can push some of it back for at least a few seconds. I wish I could make it go away for you, but I can be a friend and I am here anytime you want to talk or rant or rave. That is what friends do for each other and emotionally sometimes it can ease some of the severity for a few minutes. My email and Yahoo Messenger is ritaharrison7270@sbcglobal.com if you ever want or need to talk.

Your friend,
Rita

Sad but so beautifully written.. I cannot say I comprehend the pain you must endure, both Rita and Emy said it all... hang in there, John...it could have been worst!

Beautiful writing, perfect rhyming, but such a sad, sad poem. I loved it and I hope that you get better. I'll pray for you and you must stay strong emotionally, because that's really all we have, no matter who we are or what state we are in. Don't let go of your happiness and who you are, no matter what hardships may be thrown your way.

"All who come here die
my rose is death
and my song is mourning"

This is how I felt less than a month ago. I was planning on killing myself and I broke down in tears because I could not do it. Since then friends both on site and off have shown me how valuable my life is. I still struggle with depression but not so much that I want to end my life any more. If you ever want to talk about what you feel I am on site every day. Tell me what I can do to help you. I really mean that. Life is too precious to throw away. If you want go read the poems "Staring into the abyss" and "On Dreams" Tell me what you think but mostly find reasons to not give up on life. You have friends on the site if you don't have any one where you are to talk to. You can count me as one of them.

Your poem allows the reader to empathize with what the speaker is going through in a very effective manner. Your rhyme scheme and meter are excellent...great poem.

Depression can make you feel that way for sure. Of course now days they have medication to help a person out. Sometimes, we all feel this way, and thankfully with much prayer, we can make it to a better day, and each day is a new start. I read deep into poetry, and for yours I think, I comment, in the Light:

I see the hell, we each may go through at times, as we have our daily living, and unless we can truly open up, get right with our Lord, we are all dead walkers. This is something we must work on all day long and every day, and not just on saturdays and sundays. In order to regain new days, days of joys we once had, although are and will be different, and, to keep it, keep the peace, begin to walk alive, we must prepare our souls for the sweetness of Him that is knocking and knocking, screaming behind our door of life, hello is anyone home in there, this is God, open up, anyone home. Hello, this is God, answer your door.

There are and has been good times for all of us, we need to concentrate on the peaceful times and lift our hearts to know there is much peace in the world, if we can open up our eyes to it, it is there. I am guilty of this darkness myself, when I think there is nothing more, but then I pray, grab hold of God and He lifts me out of it. He can do that for all, if we let Him.

Lots of stuff going on in the world right now, and we all need to pray.

This write, Dead man Walking shows me that there is an awareness to what is happening to the soul that can bring on this darkness. It certainly does open up eyes, awakens us. Nice pipe to look through, and if you look closely through that hollow pipe, you will see the light at the end of it, explosions of Light.

You must have had a wonderful childhood in order to write something like this, for now you can see it being contrasted with the wickedness of today, that is outdoing our history.. getting worse by far, until we all realize that we must go to the source, our Light of Light, and until we can all do this, there will be more darkness.

Lets all pray and remember to be ready, for the day is coming soon, when our Father in heaven is calling on us, about to ask us who Jesus is. We better know.

Alot of people think the dead man walking is Jesus.. but no, He is alive and walking. Replace that hell with heaven, do it fast, do it now.

Huggs, most magnificent write, thank you,

In my mind I will think of your as LightHorse2005, even though I am wise to know you are a magnificent writer, and this is a poem, and, I pray this is just an analogy, a metaphor to help us see.

Albeit, you have written a beautiful message for us all. I thank you, keep writing to open up all of our hearts and eyes, to see what it is like to be dark, to be a dead man walking.

Raquel Leah :D Huggs, be well
