Array ( [sid] => 103702 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Lipstick and Rouge [time] => 2005-08-17 02:32:38 [hometext] => The lipstick and rouge line came from the movie The War. Kevin Costner's character was referring to an old house that needed a little TLC. [bodytext] => Many abandoned homes I see
along the drive
across this land
take a look
they seem to be everywhere
left behind
they look so forlorn
so forgotten

Window panes long gone
no one looking out the window any longer
no one waiting for someone to come home

Paint peeling
dried and blowing away
I swear I hear the old house sighing
wishing for the good old days

Porch railing rotted through
old swing barely hanging on
visions flash through my mind
of giggling children, running wild

Grass all grown up
stones barely visible on the old garden path
weeds are all that remain
inside the fenced domain

picket fence still out front
your gate is torn away
tiger lilies growing all beside you
still a beautiful view
on this fine day

stone chimney crumbling
on one side
no more warm fires
glowing from inside

why did someone leave it?
leave it all alone
let nature take over her
now she's overgrown

It saddens me
she still has so much character
What a lovely place
she is to me
"just needs a little lipstick and rouge"
that's all.....you'll see

Very descriptive and sentimental write with a lot of nastalgia; and a real lonely and lonesome tug at the heart. A masterful appeal to ones connection with the past gone buy, current whereabouts unknown.

Excellent piece, a real poetic view, Laura

Will

Great use of wording to enhance the imagery...Well done! I love that movie btw!! It's funny, I quoted that 'lipstick and rouge' line in one of the threads in the forums a couple months back...lol This is a very good piece of nostalgia Laura...nicely done: )

It's "Picolla the weeper" I guess .. my friend in Salerno called me that because I cried so much .. when something was beautiful .. or sad .. no matter; I was crying .. this is lovely, Laura .. you're getting better and better ..

love this
it describes so many homes
i have seen in the high desert
here in california
makes me remember my long drives to nowhere
and at same time i remember the dying towns
in the middle of new york state, old factory towns with rusting factories and empty houseing tracks

this is actually quite sad, and I can just see that house. I like it when people notice things like this, a very nice little ditty indeed, laura.
